Finishing Geometric

The geometric piece is finally finished! I haven't updated the progress because I've been working on several paintings at the same time. Been quite busy.

This is one of the pieces that will be shown in a new restaurant in downtown Greer called Ember, its next to the Cazbah.

Here's the inspiration for this piece again...
NatGeo: "Kenya Aimed skyward from photos atop a train, the eyes of women pierce a rooftop landscape in Nairobi's Kibera slum.  The display, a part of a global art project, paid tribute to women from Africa, Brazil, India and Cambodia."

I did a previous post showing some progress.  But here's the progress and finished progress since then...

Jeremiah 1:5

My most recent piece that I completed yesterday was commissioned after he saw a work that he liked on my facebook art page.  I want to share the 2 pieces in this post.

Last year my stepmom, Sherry, came to me with a couple of bible verses that she wanted paintings for.  The first on the list was Jeremiah 1:5..."Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you. Before you were born I set you apart." At first I had some trouble coming up with an idea of how to show the verse but also combine it with a painting so this painting took a little while.

When I was approached to do this painting for someone to give as a Christmas present I was pretty excited because I would give me an opportunity to do the same idea but in a different way.

I love being able to just paint and see what happens but I also love to do commissioned work.  Getting ideas from someone then being able to paint something so special to just them is great and it means a lot to me to be able to do it.

Pharaoh

I took a break from the "geometric" piece that I've been working on to start AND finish a new work.  I wanted to do something fun and different with color since the geometric piece is so neutral. So here we go...

Pretty different than the other stuff I've done but I needed a change so there it went!
I also finished a commissioned piece...I'll share that tomorrow!

Flying Poop

Okayyyyy......

Wanted to start the weekend with a piece that is....kinda funny.  I've shared this with a couple of people, but now that I have a blog, I can share it with everyone.

Like I said in previous posts I had flipped through some books looking at other pieces of art and photographs. This particular book has a very wide variety of genres...very wide.

I've seen some crazy works in this book but when I saw this particular piece, I busted out laughing and of course had to share it.  So....here it is.

Yep...it's flying poop!

Geometric

I started a new piece a couple of days ago; I'll go ahead and show you guys.  Of course I saw a photo in one of my NatGeo magazines....

The geometric shapes were so appealing to me.  I haven't really worked with anything geometric so I definitely wanted to try something new.  Little did I know how time consuming these little rectangles would be.  I wanted each rectangle to have a texture of its own.

...slowly...but surely...it's coming along...

"Rajani"

I want to share my most recent painting I completed last week, titled "Rajani."  It's nice to have this blog because I can't really share the context/background for this piece in an online gallery like I want to.

For the past couple of weeks, I have been going through my National Geographic magazines that my awesome Grandma has ordered for me.  I've been looking at a broad range of pictures...landscapes, portraits, animals.
After looking endlessly I came across this article "Too Young to Wed."

Yeah the article was sad, girls as young as 5 were getting married off illegally; but it wasn't the article that caught my attention; it was Rajani's face.

After seeing her I knew I had to challenge myself with her portrait.  Of course I was scared cause I have never painted a still life or portrait but I'm glad I chose Rajini as my first.  The caption in NatGeo read "Long after midnight, five-year-old Rajani is roused from sleep and carried by her uncle to her wedding.  Child marriage is illegal in India, so ceremonies are often held in the wee hours of morning it becomes a secret the whole village keeps, explained one farmer." (June 2011)

Here are some progressive pictures...

Well, for the first post I guess I'll fill you guys in on why I am starting this blog.  I'm an artist, I've been painting and drawing for a while now.  Here lately I have decided to try and make a go of it in the "art world."  Art is my "thing" and it makes me happy, so why not make that my "job." Everyone is always saying "do what makes you happy" so that is exactly what I am doing.  I started out with a fan page on Facebook, it's still up I keep a full profile there...feel free to check it out.  I mainly used the fan page for finished pieces, I wanna take the blog a little further and update it with the progression of pieces.  I want people to be able to see the different stages of a single piece.

Also, I commission pieces, if interested feel free to email me.

Thanks guys! I'll be posting soon!
